I would like to also compliment you on what an amazing horse you foaled! I didn't buy him directly through you, I bought him from a barn in MN called Black
Shire Equestrian Center. He's still only three, but he has the disposition of a retired grand prix jumper  (I know, kind of funny)- in the best of ways. He learns like I'm schooling a horse that already knows what to do. He is entirely accepting of everything I ask of him and more! Merlyn is also very affectionate, not something you find in a lot of horses . Just a great all around guy! I'm impressed!

I just wanted to let you know that filly #49 (aka Denali) from this last foal crop is doing fantastic! I will be sending pictures soon, but she is still shedding out right now and I want to wait until she is all done with that. She is an incredibly sweet and personable little girl with tons of curiosity. She is beautiful and I absolutely love her conformation. Her gaits are fantastic and I cannot wait until she is old enough to start riding, as I know she will be a wonderful dressage mount.
I also wanted to make sure that I was on the mailing list for the 2008 foals DVD. I would love to take another one home! I can't wait until you post their pictures online for me to check out.

Metaphor - Sire Proven Jade

 Dear Lloyd and Melanie,
I have been training and riding Metaphor (see attached registration
info) for Susan Harding.  He is doing well and starting to show in
some hunter/jumper shows. Unbeknownst to Susan, I am having him trained  to
drive, and he's taking to it like a duck to water! It's like he's
found his calling. Yesterday was only his third official lesson, and next week we'll
hook him up to the carriage for the first time. I can't wait!

Hi Mel,

Here are photos of Metaphor driving in his lesson last night. He’s doing great and loving it! Susan is so excited about the driving as well—she is driving in some of the pictures. This was only his 9th lesson, I think, and he’s really gotten the hang of it.

Feel free to post them on your site if you want since I was the photographer.

Best,
Stacey

Metaphor has been in several magazines,  including EQUUS, Dressage Today, Practical Horseman and The Horse, and on the Web site www.equisearch.com, so I guess that makes him famous!

Amy L. Lacy writes about Goldsboro her new foal

He is here! Here is a web page I made last night with pics of him in his new
home.
http://www.amylacy.com/goldsboro.htm.

He was very well behaved, and also extremely gentle and friendly. I had no
problems with him at all, he unloaded off the semi-truck very well and I had
to lead him up our driveway, which is 450' long, in the dark. He did so
great!

He was thirsty and hungry, but settled down once he was full and got some
good scratchies. I think he's a happy boy. :-)

Thank you so much for everything, you will definitely get some referrals
from me! :-D

FROM TOM & DENISE PETERSON - SANTA YNEZ, CALIFORNIA

Castle Rock is a lovely 3 yr old Percheron/Tb gelding.  He was one of the easiest horses to start, very willing to except anything new that was asked of him.  Because of this easy attitude we did not hesitate on taking him on a few hunts (third field).  He is steady, never gets excited, even in a group of 20 horses all cantering, he just picked a spot and kept up with the field.  He is pictured here at closing hunt with the Santa Ynez Valley Hunt.

When his new owners came to look at him, they had a long list of needs!  Mother wanted a horse that she could start taking dressage lessons on, the 12 yr old daughter is a bit timid around horses, she wants a western pleasure horse, the youngest daughter and bravest of them all. . . . wants to do everything, mostly jumping.  All three riders rode him and got along great.  Castle Rock will be totally loved and I am sure he will take care of all their needs, they could not ask for a better natured horse.

Thank you so much for all your help in deciding which colt to pick!  I am sooooo happy with my guy!!!  He is absolutely GORGEOUS and very bold and curious, too.  Quite large, just as promised!!  All the babies were beautiful and in excellent condition.  Kay's #61 moves like a dream, she is thrilled with him as I am with my guy.  Ellie's little guy #67 is a darling, quite shy but so cute.  All of them are very impressive - I'm so glad I decided to purchase from you folks.

Thank you, again, for all your time and honesty.  We have two folks that have visited the babies they'll probably be among your next year's customers :)

Happy owner in the Midwest
After reading an article in my "Dressage Today" magazine, I logged on the Cancade Farms website. The darling faces of the foals enticed me to request a video, and after that, it's all history. The hardest part was picking one foal, and after multiple viewings of the video, talking with my vet, and talking with Lloyd, I decided on one.
Canaska Dancer (from Canada to Nebraska) arrived on November 8 and he has settled in so well. He is the center of attention at the barn, and he loves it.  He has such a good mind and is learning every day. When the vet came out to give him shots, he commented on how pretty he is, with good conformation and good straight legs and slanted shoulders. Thank you Lloyd and Melanie for this wonderful foal.

We just wanted to let you know we love Colt 47 now known as Nigel. Thanks to you we made a great selection. We'll be coming back for another one or two next year. Susan my wife is in love with him and is going to keep him for herself.

I just wanted to drop you a note on the colt I got from you . He has been
SO easy with everything - grooming, feet trimming, shots - he has not given
me a hard time about anything. My vet and farrier both liked him a lot. He
fit right in with my other guys - he was their little buddy right off the
bat. I am so pleased with every aspect  - his attitude, conformation, color
and markings. I am still so pleased on how easy going he has been about
everything - I hope the same when it is time to get on his back! He is
filling out well and is about 13h hands @ 5months. Will send a photo when I
get a better one - he is a little too nosey to take by myself!

I wanted to give you a quick update on one of the foals from your farm. Metaphor was brought to the States by Ellie Trueman and I purchased him (at first just half and then the rest this spring). He has grown into a wonderful horse -- stunning to look at, wonderful with people and possessing a unique curiosity and playful spirit. A friend started him and has been working with him for about 3 months. We took him to a Pat Parelli clinic early last month and he was the star of the show! So much so, that Pat invited him to his ranch in Colorado for 3 months of training. He is there now and I can't wait to go visit and see the progress next month. His latest escapade was jumping out of a stall over a 4 1/2 foot gate when he arrived in Colorado!

I'm not sure what he will be when he grows up -- it looks like it may have to involve jumping, but I promise to keep you posted on his progress. He really is a very special horse.

Canada has just come back from his first 60 days with a trainer. The trainer uses the Pereilli method of breaking horses. He loved Canada and said he was one of the best young horses to work with. I have been riding him very lightly, now that he is home. I hope to buy another foal this summer.

I am writing for two reasons... to tell you that Remy is doing FANTASTIC and to inquire about your new foals. Remy is such a sweet guy! He is so intelligent, athletic and easy going... a combination that can be hard to find! We have been very pleased with him so far.

I got Sedona last year because I loved Ben so well, and he was such a good quality colt. Quite happily, as good as Ben is, Sedona is even much nicer. His quality of movement, and his endearing personality are just amazing! I do love my two Cancade boys VERY much! They are everything I could ever want in a horse.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with our foal that we got from you. We have named him Aslan. My vet took one look at him and said "WOW, I really like his confirmation". Your foals are wonderful and I hope to get another one soon.

I first contacted Lloyd & Melanie in May/June 2003.  I was looking for a sporthorse foal.  Melanie was wonderful to work with, she answered all of my many questions in a timely & helpful manner.  I spoke with Lloyd several times & they were both very upfront on all aspects - both the foals themselves & the details of purchasing and shipping my foal.  I am absolutely thrilled with Echo, my now yearling by Expect Greatness.  He is very calm, willing & an absolute sweetheart.  I would - and have - highly recommend Cancade Farms to anyone looking for a great horse at a reasonable price bred by caring, kind, helpful people.

The hardest part of the whole transaction was choosing just ONE foal.

Just wanted to tell you that First Edition (champ) is awesome!!
Very gray and very tall 15.1 (one year old) at the withers and pure elegance not the least bit draft horse looking.
Her personality is happy, energetic, and always positive. I don't think she knows how to put her ears back she is always happy!!! So easy to work with and train!! She is totally voice command trained in hand and on lunge line. When she is loose in the ring she runs around jumping over poles on the ground and if a jump is set up she runs at it and jumps it, never runs out of energy!! (just the way I like my horses).
I have never been so happy with a  horse!!! I can't wait to buy her sister/brother!!!

Just a note here that I'd like to personally recommend foals from the Cancade Farms, of Saskatchewan, Canada. I bought two of their fillies this past fall, and am very pleased with the breeding, overall quality, and most of all by the personal service and attention provided by Lloyd and his wife Melanie Cancade.
I've been in frequent contact with the Cancade's since June when I first began asking about their foals. Lloyd delivers their foals himself from Canada, often driving for a full month or more each fall, all across the U.S.   I not only received a thank you card from them, I've had excellent service with prompt, personal calls and emails with answers to feeding and handling questions. They are enjoyable folks who take great care of their horses.. I wish for both foals' sakes and the owners' that all farms were this easy and reputable to deal with.

I highly recommend this family, their farm and their horses. I'm hoping to buy several more this coming year.

Phil Walker from Colorado

A few years ago we met Mel and Lloyd Cancade at one of their first ever sport horse auctions at High Prairie Farms in Parker, Colorado. There is where we bought Royal Hunter, Roy is the big bay colt on the Cancade's web page and is the kindest hearted steed I have been around. He is absolutely magnificent! He was broke at the walk, trot and canter at the age of two. (Very minimal riding, 10 minutes per saddle time. Mostly walk trot). His knees were closed late in his second year. These horses, because of their breeding I believe, mature somewhat faster than other breeds. He currently stands 17.3 HH in the rear and around 17.2 at the withers. He will top out at 17.3 to 18 hands. He is incredibly powerful and confirmation should allow for use in the jumper ring, cross country, field hunter or most likely dressage because of his power, beauty and gaits. (I am a proud Papa), We showed Roy at the High Prairie Farms confirmation class for two and three year olds in August 2000 and he placed second in the class with $10,000. to $35,000 dollar colts. The judge asked if he was Holstiner or Hanovarian? My wife replied Percheron / thoroughbred cross thus my belief as to why we placed second. Ha, Ha never make a judge look silly.
We have since purchased Roys half brother out of Expect Greatness this past fall and he is the spitting image of Roy. I don't think I had or have since, met two people who cared about their stock then the Cancade's. I will continue to purchase horses from the Cancade's for many years to come.
The Cancade's have become, since our first meeting three years ago, very good family friends and worthy of our regard when it comes to horse breeding.

Doctor Loree Guthries  from  Pensylvania

Very athletic, beautiful,  intelligent animals with a sweet disposition that want to please.

Lynn Lloyd from Nevada

In 1999 I visited the Cancade Farms and was impressed with the outstanding quality of mare care, farm management and foals produced by the Cancade family's mares. I purchased two 3/4 thoroughbred, 1/4 draft weanlings. They are now spectacular yearlings showing tremendous athletic potential as well as lovely dispositions. I couldn't be more pleased with the 1999 crop and look forward to years of future interaction with Lloyd & Melanie Cancade. (Lynn has since purchased 7 more weanlings).

Ellie Trueman from Maryland

The quality of the Cancade foals is quite extraordinary. The selection of Thoroughbred stallions, with sought after bloodlines such as Bold Ruler, Native Dancer, Mr. Prospector, is a testimony to the expertise and effort that the Cancade's have applied to produce quality sport horses. With exceptional temperament, athletic ability and conformation, these foals hold great promise for success in a variety of the US's sporting disciplines such as show jumping, eventing, fox hunting and show hunters.

Edith Conyers  from Kentucky

I have been going to Canada for 5 years to purchase young sport horse prospects from weanlings size to now, more recently, two and three year olds. Each year the quality of the offerings goes up and the showmanship and presentation of the horses to us buyers has improved immensely and is on the whole, excellent. This year was the 3rd time I have visited Lloyd & Melanie Cancade's farm to look at their young stock. Each year has been better than the last. We have been able to see the stallions as well as the mares and foals shown as individual units so we can evaluate the mare and foal together which allows us as buyers to see what confirmation traits seemed to be passed on weather be good or bad. Lloyd and Melanie have done a wonderful job improving each year, their breeding program which is resulting in higher quality foals with more potential to do more "sport horse jobs", by increased the variety of TB sires and the percentage of TB in the foals. They also meticulously screen the mares and foals before our arrival so we do not have to view ones which are already sold. Each year it is a pleasure to visit the Cancade Ranch and I always look forward to it knowing that we as buyers will have a good selection from which to choose.

My Cancade babies have all been healthy, sound, with terrific minds. They are extremely trainable and all show a large amount of athleticism. i give the a "Big thumbs up".
